Lately, the silhouette challenge has spiked up a whole lot of controversies on social media,  and so many has been left debilitated trying to shade religious and moral judgment on the challenge. 


I am not writhing this  piece to counter anyone's opinion about the challenge. I'm only sharing the positive aspect of silhouette challenge.


 A silhouette is the image of a person, animal, object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single colour, usually black, with its edges matching the outline of the subject.


Silhouette is a form of therapy for the gymnophobic patients. What's gymnophobia you might be asking,.. Gymnophobia is the fear of nudity. In plain explanation, gymnophobia is the fear of one seeing him or herself naked, seeing others naked or others seeing them naked. 


Gymnophobia is an emotional disorder that's caused by so many factors ranging from religious belief, parental upbringing, sexual abuse, rapid grow during adolescence and a lot more. 


People with such anxiety tend to feel shy, body-shamed, inferior and at all times they have low self esteem. They can't stand their own nude talk more of others, it also causes issues in most marriages whereby a spouse can't stand his or her partner naked, both partner can't bath together during the day or when the light is on, both partner can't have sex during the day, they do that only at night when everywhere is dark, which is not supposed to be so.

Another version of gymnophobia cast great affect on those who can't stand others naked, they tend to pick quarrels and despise others when they try to flaunt their body. Some can't even stand their own nude self even at their privacy, they feel ashamed. No! That's not being Godly, its an emotional disorder which you gotta fix before it matures into full inferiority complex and cause you depression. You gotta start looking at yourself and appreciate it the way it is. 



The concept of silhouette as an applied technique for the correction of gymnophobia isn't to expose your nude on the media, rather it's to help you gain self confidence and become more appreciative of yourself. How does it work you ask? Here's it, since such disorder is caused by fear, the only way to control it is by being fearless and confident an this is an end result of doing regularly those things that makes you afraid ( facing your fears). 

 

Start with meditation while nude with a dim light and cool music, (Music shouldn't be too loud in other to allow you focus), you could walk, sit or stand with your eyes open, focus on yourself, picture yourself in your mind.

NOTE: this therapy is best  done when you're alone and no one is watching.

Do it constantly for 10-20 mins within 5-7 days. Check your comfortability with your nude self, if there's improvement, try a bright light and repeat same process, After the next step, check your comfortability again, then gradually move to a brighter light on till you fully gain confidence. 


It's all about the mind, the silhouette therapy helps you get rid of such gymnophobic anxiety.
